The Way of Justice, Mercy, Humility: From A Singing Faith.

The hymn was written to the tune St Patrick's Breastplate. The permutations of that tune in Stanford's setting required some simplification.

Please press the red title to hear a MIDI recording of this tune, and then re-open this window to read the carol while listening.

If you would prefer to follow the tune and text on paper you may download a PDF file of this hymn.

The Way of Justice, Mercy, Humility

May good intention lead to action
    Christ, in all we say and do;
give us discernment, wisdom, vision,
    our example set by you.
Travelling like a pilgrim people
    comforted by staff and rod,
may we do justly, love mercy,
    walk humbly with our God.
.

Help us to see the needs of others,
    lift the burden of their load,
illuminate the path we follow,
    lead us on the unknown road.
Journeying hand in hand together,
    feet with loving kindness shod,
may we do justly, love mercy,
    walk humbly with our God.

Teach us the truths that guide our footsteps;
    knowledge of your word bestow,
until at last our journey's ended
    and fulfilment we shall know,
finding answers to our questions;
    treading where your feet have trod,
may we do justly, love mercy,
    walk humbly with our God.
